Back Mountain Veggie Gardens

In 2015, the Board of Supervisors, approved a food pantry vegetable garden to be operated on their property. The Supervisors also secured a grant to improve the property at that time. The grant was used to build a road and fencing so Back Mountain Veggie Garden had the resources necessary to create a healthy community garden free from wildlife visitors. The Grant also provided funds for additional supplies needed by the garden including fruit trees.

In 2021, the Back Mountain Veggie Garden produced and donated 1,172 pounds of produce to multiple pantries and projects in the area. The produce distributed included the following: lettuce, yellow squash, zucchini, cucumbers, red beets, potatoes, cabbage, peppers, large and small tomatoes, carrots, green beans, broccoli, swiss chard, garlic, radishes, onions, yellow beans, eggplant and pumpkin.

The Veggie Garden has also partnered with the Back Mountain Bloomers who plant flowers for donations to local assisted living facilities. In 2021, 164 fresh bouquets were delivered around our community.
